Twitter is probably one of the fastest growing social networking sites at the current time; it has had a huge amount of buzz surrounding it and the media are swarming to get on to the site. Celebrities from all over the world have took to using the site to update there fans and followers.
The companies have had a lot of financial backing and the big guns such as Facebook have been chasing to get there hands in on the site. Not so long ago Twitter turned down a $500 million offer for the site that was offered Facebook, the main reason that this transaction failed was because of the fact that Facebook were only offering stock.
Twitter has to do something because they have to show investors that it was worth while, and so far they have yet to do that. On the other hand Google are a very clever company and they will do all that they can to protect themselves. In some ways Twitter could be seen as a potential threat to Google. Twitter is basically real time conversation that is being used; this has the ability to grow to deliver the latest trends to searchers. Google want a piece of this. Google are always thinking about improving there search and why shouldn’t they? that’s what made them popular, everything they do they do for a reason. I mean for example look at YouTube. Google are now using YouTube to deliver trusted media video results in their searches.
If the transaction goes through in a few months we may well see tweets integrated into the search. This will give users live updated information of the latest buzz. I mean Google will then have so many avenues being fed in they will be unstoppable. From the likes of natural results, videos, images, PPC, news, blogs and potentially tweets delivering the latest information by users.
If Google are not buying the site then there is definitely going to be talks happening about how the two businesses could tie themselves together and help each other. I mean from Twitters perspective they would be crazy not to take advantage of the scenario. I mean why would you not want to be working with one of the richest companies in the world. They can either choose to work with them or fight against them, which would probably see twitter site suffer in the long run.
