Libraries: Going Online

Friday, February 13th, 2009

For as long as can be remembered, libraries have offered mass amounts of free information that is easily accessible to the nearby community. This unlimited access has been an asset to communities everywhere for research, educational and recreational purposes. Patrons could go to the library and access all this information for free, keep it for a set time, and return it later. All seemed to work well and both library and patron were happy.

However, patrons encountered one large problem with libraries: their inability to be accessible at all hours of the day. When patrons needed to return a book late or pick up one early, they would encounter the discouraging pictures of closed doors. Enter the online library, a place that contained all the same information as an actual library with the added bonus of being accessible at all hours of the day from any location. By simply using their library cards, patrons could have access to these online portals. With the online library, a patron does not have to worry about finding their book or movie by closing time because no such time exists. Also, if the information a patron needs is contained within another library, they do not need to wait for their library to send for it but can instead access it immediately on the web. However, if the patron wishes to view the information in hard copy form, they can also order it and pick it up at their library.

Among the more popular of these online innovations are the Internet Public Library and Thomson Gale’s AccessMyLibrary, two sites granting access to a number of libraries in one spot. These online libraries offer the same resources as traditional libraries, but now the information can be accessed quickly and easily. Patrons can search for books and media by title, author, subject, genre, and even dewy decimal system in some cases. Besides searching for books, patrons can also search for newspapers and individual articles found on the web. The search capabilities in online libraries often compete with search engines; however libraries have the upper hand. Searching in a library often yields results that are more relevant and focused than those found on a normal search engine.

The information searched on an online library is not limited to what is contained within the true library (if one is even attached to the online library), but is open to a world of resources found on the web. Material that was too expensive or otherwise inaccessible through traditional libraries is made readily available on online versions. Information from magazines, journals, newspapers and more is searched to find exactly what the patron is looking for. Online libraries often work with databases such as Gale/Thomson’s InfoTrac Databases, Ebscohost Research Databases and infoUSA’s Reference USA.

Opening up the net to the information stored in a library also presents the library itself with benefits. No longer does storage space become an issue for a library because all its content is stored in electronic form. Offering content online also allows for better communication between the library and its patrons due to e-mail capabilities.

Do not be swayed that online libraries will leave librarians out of a job. Content must be monitored to ensure its relevancy and sites must be maintained by those knowledgeable in the library field. Librarians are also used on some sites for an “ask a librarian” feature that allows patrons to e-mail a question to a librarian and get a response in a couple of days. Librarians are essential to keeping online libraries going.

With the establishment of online libraries, patrons and libraries are kept happy and busy. Content is no longer denied due to over stocked shelves and doors are never closed to those eager to learn. Going online has allowed libraries to reach across states, countries and continents and grant millions access to a wealth of knowledge.

School Grants

Friday, February 13th, 2009

Regardless the scenario you’re operating under, you’ve enrolled and it’s going to cost you money. How much? Well that depends on your eligibility for school loans, scholarships, or grants offered by governments (federal and state) or the school itself.

School grants have special appeal because, like scholarships, they do not have to be repaid. This gives them that extra benefit over student loans. Grants can be accessed through federal and state government agencies via a detailed application process.

The issue of applying for a school grant to help with the financial demands of higher education is certainly something you should consider. If and when you do, there are many resources available to make your application process less daunting.

The best way to approach the school grant process is to talk to the financial aid department at the school you’re interested in attending. A counselor in one of these departments will be able to point you in the direction of federal and state government programs for students.

Another great resource to learn about the process of applying for school grants is the US Department of Education’s website:

www.fafsa.ed.gov

And their web portal entitled Student Aid on the Web, located at:

www.studentaid.ed.gov

There you will find a wealth of information designed to guide you through the process of applying for a school grant.

Once you’ve decided to apply for a grant be prepared to provide detailed information and documentation about your current financial situation. It is also wise to apply as soon as possible, beginning January 1st each year. A separate application has to be made for every year of study.

As stated above, the school you are planning to attend may offer grants through an institutional grant program. They may have in place a process that will help cover the costs you cannot while at their institution. The criteria may be based on your financial situation or there may be no criteria at all: being awarded on academic merit alone.
Private corporations also assist with grant money to children of their employees who, because of stellar academic achievement, earn this reward as part of a company’s goodwill and commitment to the community. If you qualify for this scenario then it’s worth investigating.

Be Prepared

When initiating the process to acquire a school grant, a counselor at the school you plan to attend can help you with the specific requirements and documentation needed for a particular application.

Above All

Assess your level of financial need carefully so you can apply for the appropriate grant. Take these suggestions into consideration:

Secure all documentation required to make a thorough and complete application:
* Social Security number.
* W-2 forms and any record of income earned for the appropriate year.
* Driver’s License.
* Your Federal Income Tax Return, and if married, your spouse’s.
* Your parents’ Federal Income Tax Return if you’re a dependent student.
* Any records of untaxed income (i.e. Social Security, Welfare, Veterans Benefits, and the like).
* IRS Form 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ, foreign tax return, or any other U.S. territory’s tax return.
* Bank statements and any other investment records.
* Your alien registration number or permanent residence card if you are not a citizen of the United States.

Applying for a school grant can be time consuming and a little complicated the first time around. That’s why it is so important to prepare properly for the process, to have the right documentation at the right time, and to take advantage of the counsel available from people who do this for a living. In the end it will be worth it, when you’ve secured the school grant and have one less thing to worry about when it comes time to hit the books.

Free Wealth Creation System Review

Friday, February 13th, 2009

Are you working hard to get ahead, but your income never seems to be enough? Do you wish you could quit your job and still have money to live off? Do you want to be wealthy, but you have no idea how to create wealth or when you will find the time? Not only that, but you know that it takes money to make money, and you can just barely make ends meet as it is.

What if you actually did have enough time to create the lifestyle of your dreams not only for yourself, but for your family as well?

What if you actually had enough money and could find a legitimate wealth creation system which required no special knowledge or training, and it was a simple step-by-step system?

What if all you had to do is to put in the effort to follow the system, and the wealth of your dreams would be less than two years away?

What if somebody was giving this wealth creation system away for free?

That is what they are doing with the Wealthstratosphere Wealth Creation System.

The first part of the system tells you the concepts you should know in order to make any wealth building system work.

Then the second part of the system gives you the step-by-step system to use in order to actually create legitimate wealth.

No multi-level marketing, or fly-by-night scams. This wealth system is the real deal.

Not only do they explain the Wealthstratosphere Wealth Creation System for free, but it takes less than $100 to get started. That’s for off-line. If you wanted to start online, they even set up a website where you could get started for free.

The only thing that is not free, is the membership they set up to help people who want or need a little extra help.

It is not required in order to succeed with their system. The Wealthstratosphere System has everything you need to know. But if you are interested in a little extra support during your wealth creation, their membership is only $10 a month.

It’s all free, except for the monthly membership if you want that. But even their membership has a free membership level.

The only difference between the free membership and the premium level at $10 a month, is that the premium level has more content, and it gets updated more frequently.

The free website they set up to help people who want to make money online, is not as fancy looking as other websites I have seen, but it makes you think about why more people don’t have systems like this.

There are so many people who say they want to help other people succeed. These guys actually seem to be doing more than just talking about it.

The main website to get The Wealthstratosphere Wealth Creation System is not very exciting to look at either. But the content he gives you for free more than makes up for the poor looks of the website.

I recommend you go check it out and get your free wealth building system before they come to their senses.

The Wealthstratosphere Wealth Creation System is totally free, thanks to Calvin Brown. Go check it out for yourself at: http://www.wealthstratosphere.com

Why Affiliate Marketing Does Not Work

Friday, February 13th, 2009

Despite the claims of many online gurus, most people fail at affiliate marketing online. By fail, I mean they do not make enough money with affiliate marketing to be able to afford the mythical Internet Lifestyle.

Yet every day you will read another sales letter making claims about how you can make a fortune without a website, without an opt-in email list, and without a product of your very own.

Now to some extent, those claims are true. But what they fail to tell you, is that you must have systems set up for you to be able to succeed without those things. The sad fact of the matter is, most affiliate marketers, especially those who are new to the Internet, or are just starting out, do not have any of the necessary systems in place.

To top it all off, most people who are attracted to affiliate marketing, just do not have the resources to make affiliate marketing a success for themselves.

They also do not have the training or knowledge concerning marketing in general, and lack the skills to drive traffic to the products they are promoting via their affiliate links.

Which brings up another point. The traffic acquisition cost is necessarily dependent on how much the affiliate marketer is getting paid for each successful transaction.

When the product an affiliate marketer is promoting costs only $37, for example, and the affiliate commission is only 50%, that does not leave very much money on the table for the affiliate marketer to use in driving traffic through their affiliate link. Especially if they hope to make any profit at all.

Which is another way of saying that the profit margins are so low to begin with, it is almost impossible for affiliate marketing to generate any serious income.

What about those high-ticket items which seem to be launched every other week?

Not only does the beginning affiliate marketer have to compete with well established gurus for the affiliate marketing dollar, but the beginner’s lack of status in the marketplace almost ensures that nobody will be making a high-dollar purchase through their affiliate link.

The only solution, and as far as I am concerned, the only possible chance a person has who is brand new to affiliate marketing, is to find highly targeted niche products where the affiliate commission approaches or even equals 100% of the sales price.

It would also help if there were a system to support the affiliate marketer with ongoing training and resources, to help them promote their affiliate link.

Highly targeted niche products would help in this regard. The affiliate marketer would only have to focus their efforts on targeting a highly focused group of people. Building a certain level of recognition in a highly targeted niche, is much easier and effective than trying to promote the latest high-ticket Internet marketing products which appeal to the lowest common denominator.
