An Inadequate Amount Of Water Can Cause Dehydration

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

Dehydration is something you do not want to go through because your body feels sick and weak. It is caused when your body is not getting enough water or an illness depletes the water stored in the body. Winter time is when people get really dehydrated usually because it is the cold and flu season and so many illnesses are spread from one person to another. Two things that cause dehydration easily are vomiting and diarrhea.

Either of these things can accompany a case of the flu or various stomach bugs. When people are ill, they do not always feel up to eating or drinking anything especially if they know it is going to make them throw up or go to the bathroom constantly. Therefore they might not take in as much water as they need to keep their body hydrated. When you become dehydrated your skin will feel hot and dry to the touch. The lips can become parched and red too.

Older and younger people become dehydrated easiest of all in most circumstances. Their bodies have a hard time dealing with dehydration and it can makes them even sicker. There are many other ways to get dehydrated like burns, diabetes, loss of blood, hypothermia, malnutrition, and stress can even do it. Dehydration can cause you to have headaches, pains in the muscles, it can make you thirsty, decreased urination, lightheaded, and more. Dehydration can hospitalize you if it gets too bad. Sometimes they will have to give you fluids intravenously if you can not keep liquids down.

This will put fluids back into your body so you will not get worse. How much fluids they will have to put in your depends on how badly dehydrated you were and what type of illness you might have as well. Dehydration can usually be resolved fairly easily unless there are other complicating factors, for example: People who have chemotherapy can become easily dehydrated because they can vomit a lot from the medical treatment or newborns with diarrhea because their little systems might not be working properly yet. You can also get dehydrated by drinking too much alcohol or being in the heat outside too long without taking in enough water to replace what your body uses and loses.

Anytime it is hot outside and you are out in it, make sure you drink plenty of water because exerting yourself will use up your water reserves inside the body and sweating to keep the body cooler uses it up too. When you drink alcohol, make sure you drink a little water between your alcoholic beverages. This will keep you from becoming dehydrated for one and prevent you from getting too drunk for another.

Court-Ordered Evaluation for Alcohol and Drug Abuse-From Schaumburg and Crystal Lake

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

People can get in trouble because of alcohol and drug abuse in various ways. Alcohol and drug abuse are very common and frequently result in fights, speeding, erratic driving, fatal auto accidents, breaking and entering, robbery and all sorts of other law-breaking behavior . Unfortunately, if you find yourself in court because of one of these problems, you probably did not think about the causal relationship between alcohol abuse, drug abuse and the possible dire consequences in which you find yourself.

You may have had a tendency to feel indestructible and invulnerable to the problems that alcohol and drug abuse cause. However, as you may have discovered, abusing alcohol and using illicit drugs increases your risk of legal problems and finding yourself in court, sometimes facing a multitude of charges.

If you find yourself in this unfortunate situation, the court will want more information. It will want to know if you have a serious alcohol or drug dependency that will make it likely that you will continue to cause significant harm to yourself or others.

People often experiment with new things. You probably have used alcohol or mind-altering drugs for various reasons, including anxiety reduction, mood enhancement, to reduce stress, or even to eliminate boredom.

It is difficult for the court to know which perpetrators are simply experimenting and will stop, from those who may be entering the throes of serious problems that are likely to wreak more mayhem and havoc in the future. Also, you may have abused both legal and illegal substances.

Legal substances include alcohol, prescribed medications, such as, Vicodin and Oxycontin, various inhalants (fumes from solvents, aerosols and glue) and various over-the-counter cold, cough and sleep medications. The most commonly used illegal drugs include, but are not limited to cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana, crack, LSD, PCP, Ecstasy and various opiates, including heroin. Unfortunately, the use of these illegal substances is increasing, even in middle-class and upper-middle areas.

You may have started your use of marijuana and alcohol in high school. If so, you can probably remember a variety of very negative emotional, physical, legal, vocational or academic consequences you began experiencing at that time.

The abuse of alcohol or other mind-altering substances has probably caused the poor judgment that put you at risk for the accident, violence, law-breaking or erratic driving which you now face in court. You can help yourself by consulting with an experienced attorney and openly communicating with him or her about your recognition of your substance abuse problems.

An effective way to show the court you care and are sincere in your remorse, is to openly discuss your use and possible abuse of alcohol and mind-altering drugs with a mental health professional approved by the court. To aid in this process of evaluation, the court may require you to undergo an alcoholism or drug abuse assessment. You may be required to consult a psychologist or other counselor who is an expert at detecting the signs of alcohol and drug abuse.

The assessment is likely to include your taking one or two, paper and pencil psychological or substance abuse tests, which may take an hour or two for you to complete. It will also probably include your undergoing one or two clinical interviews with the evaluator.

The evaluating therapist or counselor will explore the following:

1. Your familys history of substance abuse, alcohol abuse and family dysfunction,

2. Which and how many of your family members display symptoms of depression, substance abuse or law-breaking behavior,

3. Your medical history and any symptoms such as, fatigue, repeated health complaints, red and glazed eyes, persistent cough etc,

4. Any emotional and behavioral signs, such as sudden mood shifts, chronic irritability, irresponsible behavior, poor judgment, agitation, depressive symptoms, troubling lack of interest in others, the frequent starting of arguments, rule-breaking or your unexplained withdrawal from family,

5. Decreased interest, poor attitude, drop in grades, absences, truancy, school disciplinary problems, or poor attitude or performance at work,

6. Your association with those who are uninterested in typical home, work or school activities or those having troubling legal or family problems,

Also, the evaluation will likely include how frequently and in what situations you use drugs or alcohol and the impact of your use on your relationships, job, physical health, financial stability, children, mental health and legal history.

Sciatica Is It Really Back Pain?

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

Sciatica is the Latin word for “Pain down the back of the leg”. It is a referred pain usually caused by trapping the sciatic nerve in the lower back. Sciatica is a set of symptoms rather than a diagnosis for what is irritating the root of the nerve, causing the pain. These symptoms are generally caused by the compression of a lumbar spine nerve root L4 or L5 or sacral nerve roots S1, S2 or S3, or far less commonly, by compression of the sciatic nerve itself.

Pain

Pain often increases on exertion or bending forward. It can also be triggered by coughing or straining and can be so severe that the lower back becomes locked in sideways bending position (scoliosis) caused by a strong contraction. Pain and paraesthesiae (pins and needles) may be apparent in one or more of these areas: the lower back, groin, perineum, buttock, hip, back of the thigh, leg and foot or the sacroiliac (SI) joint. Pain referred from trigger points in the gluteus medius is less likely to involve the thigh; gluteus maximus trigger points restricts flexion at the hip whilst Piriformis trigger points restricts medial rotation. Pain also occurs on rising from a chair, particularly if sitting crossed legged, and remains as a nagging pain when lying down causing disturbed sleep.

Symptoms

Sciatica is a symptom not a cause thus the trigger points refer pain into the lower back, either alongside the spine or across the back. The trigger points in the hamstring muscles usually results in pain being experienced on walking, possibly resulting in a limp. Typically, the symptoms are only felt on one side of the body. One of the conditions associated with the symptoms of sciatica is piriformis syndrome, this is when the sciatic nerve is being compressed by the piriformis going into spasm.

Sciatica is less common than most people think, much less common than back pain. It is often caused by standing or sitting badly, but the pain can be made worse by bending without use of the legs or unsupported twisted or sideways movements. Sciatica is pain in the distribution of the sciatic nerve and is felt in the buttocks and down the back of the leg. It is usually diagnosed through a physical exam and an MRI scan. Sciatica is different from other forms of low back pain because there are 2 sciatic nerves, although the pain is usually just on the one side.

All About Laser Eye Surgery and LASIK - Risks and Benefits

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

Laser eye surgery first became available in the UK around ten years ago, and now over 100, 000 people have laser eye surgery each year. In the hands of experiencing surgeons after having the procedure and its risks explained to you is a great way to get laser eye surgery.

The most popular type of laser eye surgery is LASIK, because it causes the patient the least discomfort and both eyes can treated at the same time. LASIK can be used to correct short-sightedness, long-sightedness and astigmatism.

The surgery involves cutting a thin flap on the surface of the eye, and using lasers underneath the flap to reshape it. Patients remain conscious throughout the procedure and it takes about ten minutes per eye.

The patient’s eyes are anaesthetised with drops and held in place using a suction ring. An eyelid retractor is used to ensure the patient doesn’t blink. In cutting edge laser eye treatments the flap will be cut with another laser rather than a blade, which means the incision is more precise and will heal faster.

There are other new developments, such as Wavefront technology which creates a virtual 3-D map of a patient’s eye, to help make surgery more accurate and successful.

The best results are achieved for people with moderate short-sightedness. Short-sighted patients with prescriptions of up to -10 and long-sighted patients whose prescription is less than +6 can have laser eye surgery done.

In a very small number of cases patients can experience some side-effects. Most side-effects are relatively minor compared with the benefits of being able to see clearly. Serious complications are very rare, but can threaten your eyesight altogether. Some people also talk about their eyes slowly regressing over ten years to the same point they were lasered. The treatment is so new that we have no idea of what the effects might be after forty or fifty years.

So make your own mind up. There are plenty of people who have had laser eye surgery and got 20/20 vision with minimal complications. As laser eye surgery becomes more established the treatment improves along with its success and safety.

A recent report conducted by Which? Found that UK high street laser eye clinics were not giving good enough advice about laser eye surgery and the possible side-effects and complications. Make sure you read up on LASIK and know the procedure and its risks before you commit.

How to Last Longer in Bed - For Men

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

Premature ejaculation is a serious problem for millions of men around the world. PE is not only a sexual problem for the man but a source for relationship problems for couples.

With everyone wanting to increase their sexual performance with the latest products, the problem of PE can be rather alarming.

Although there are several reasons why PE can occur, there are many options for cures. However, the first proper step to cure this problem is to first find out what the actual problem is.

Written below are some reasons why PE occurs. While there may be other reasons, these are among the most common. This does not mean, however, that they are the only reasons and will fit every situation.

This condition can occur when sex hormones cause extreme levels of arousal. These hormones are overly produced, and can actually speed up the ejaculation process. This happens because these particular hormones control every part of sexual intercourse.

In our case, the body is producing too much of this hormone too quickly causing the ejaculation process to speed up. If overstimulation occurs, you’ll lose all control of your staying power.

There are some medical reasons that are possible reasons for PE. If you suspect you are suffering from one, you might consider consulting your physician. Much of this will most likely depend on certain medications you are taking, and what side effects they may have on your body.

Although this is an uncommon cause, its still possible. If you have ejaculation problems then you would be happy to know that there are various methods out there that were developed to solve this problem.

This will take care of all your sexual problems, of course. There are many different kinds of products and books out there that claim they can help you solve this problem and last longer in bed. Only a few really work, however.

When you search for these products online, look for the ones that don’t require any prescriptions of some sort. Prescriptions should be only required for pharmaceutical drugs.Effective cures don’t cause any side effects and can make you last a lot longer in bed. Also, they should be easily affordable.

Many of these products are in pill form. These should not cost over $70 per bottle. A single premature ejaculation pill should cost around a dollar each. Don’t fall into the countless “premature ejaculation cure” scams on the internet and find products that work.
