An Industry Overview Of Biz Domain Names

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

Biz is a domain name most commonly used by businesses. The name dotbiz came as a phonetic spelling for the first syllable of the word business. When the domain name dotcom was increasingly used by business groups and commercial centers, the demand for some of the domain names become very high. This made it difficult for some users to get a domain name according to their interests easily. To relieve this great demand, there introduced the biz domain name. This helped businesses with an alternative when their demanded domain name was used by other websites.

The use of biz domain name is somewhat liberal except that, they must be used only by businesses or for commercial purposes. There are no specific legal constraints of geographic restrictions governing the registration of users for biz domain name. The legal remedies existing in the trademark infringement are applicable for this domain name as well.

The creation of this domain name happened in 2001. This was under the control of Neulevel and was administered by them. There was no sunrise period for the domain name. In the initial stages, they did not get first chance registrations. They followed a different procedure and here; they can claim for intellectual property well in advance and later challenge an eventual registrant. This was done through a policy named stop.

Through this manner, various domains from other registrants were obtained successfully by the trademark owners. Dotbiz domain name was started to be used only by businesses. But, the lack of proper restrictions has created a situation wherein, the dotbiz is being used in an unrestricted fashion.

The biz domain name has much recognition as a widely used domain name in internet. But in several instances, it is found that only some of the reputable institutions use dotbiz for domain registration, where as a number of low reputed organizations make use of dotbiz to register their websites.

There occurred some instances when .biz was used as a domain name, this was found to be already in use in one or more than one domain name server roots. This created a situation wherein, the domain name could point to a different IP address, based on the DNS server where it was used. Neulevel has created a control where the DNS server has to be officially registered with them, before it being registered with WHOIS for a domain for their website. This was expected to decrease the confusions existing in the use of the domain name by several websites from different domain name server roots. However, dotbiz continues to be a leading domain name used by a large number of websites online.

Is Google Going to Buy Twitter?

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

Twitter is probably one of the fastest growing social networking sites at the current time; it has had a huge amount of buzz surrounding it and the media are swarming to get on to the site. Celebrities from all over the world have took to using the site to update there fans and followers.

The companies have had a lot of financial backing and the big guns such as Facebook have been chasing to get there hands in on the site. Not so long ago Twitter turned down a $500 million offer for the site that was offered Facebook, the main reason that this transaction failed was because of the fact that Facebook were only offering stock.

Twitter has to do something because they have to show investors that it was worth while, and so far they have yet to do that. On the other hand Google are a very clever company and they will do all that they can to protect themselves. In some ways Twitter could be seen as a potential threat to Google. Twitter is basically real time conversation that is being used; this has the ability to grow to deliver the latest trends to searchers. Google want a piece of this. Google are always thinking about improving there search and why shouldn’t they? that’s what made them popular, everything they do they do for a reason. I mean for example look at YouTube. Google are now using YouTube to deliver trusted media video results in their searches.

If the transaction goes through in a few months we may well see tweets integrated into the search. This will give users live updated information of the latest buzz. I mean Google will then have so many avenues being fed in they will be unstoppable. From the likes of natural results, videos, images, PPC, news, blogs and potentially tweets delivering the latest information by users.

If Google are not buying the site then there is definitely going to be talks happening about how the two businesses could tie themselves together and help each other. I mean from Twitters perspective they would be crazy not to take advantage of the scenario. I mean why would you not want to be working with one of the richest companies in the world. They can either choose to work with them or fight against them, which would probably see twitter site suffer in the long run.

Is Launching a Successful Site More About the Technology Used or the Idea?

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

The more and more the internet grows, the more people are venturing into online businesses. But what makes a successful site these days? In the 90s if you created a site you were bound to be successful because there was hardly any competition. But nowadays each site that is put together is a kind of replica to the next.

So if you are approaching the online world, what should you think of more? Creating a site that already exists with better technology powering it or creating a new innovative idea? Let’s have a brief look at both:

Technology over Idea
Depending on which niche you are getting into this could be the way forwards. If for example you only have 2 competitors whose websites are terrible then maybe you could easily dominate the niche you are entering. The other benefit about launching a site that has already been done is that it does not take too much thinking about. You know how the site should work so you basically just need to point the programmer or developer in the right direction.

Idea over Technology
I personally believe that this is the best way to move forwards. The web is becoming saturated with cloned sites, people believe that if they copy a successful site, they themselves will end up being just as successful, but that is not the case a site is successful because it becomes innovative, it is the first thing that people have done, so why would launching a second, third or fourth be successful? Why would they sway away from using the original?

The downside of Idea over Technology is actually thinking of an idea to develop, there are a lot of things that have been done online, so coming up with a unique concept can be quite tricky, besides from that it will be hard to explain the structural technologies behind it, simply because it has never been done before.

But whatever route you choose, you must get your online and offline marketing correct, although new ideas are a lot easier to go viral they still need that initial launch to get the campaign going. If you choose the right approach, making money online can be very easy; sometimes you just need to be in the right place at the right time. Getting the timing 100% correct will be a big decisive factor in whether you will succeed or miss out.

Do You Need To Sell Something?

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

If you want or need to sell something online but you simply don’t want to go through the hassles of a site such as Amazon or the ever popular eBay then there is another way you CAN go about this. It’s easy, it’s simple to do and it’s completely free! There are classified websites online that allow you to do all kinds of things including sell items and products.

These items can be free or they can be paid. They can be cheap or they can be expensive. Maybe you lost out on the neighborhood garage sale or yard sale and you need to get rid of some stuff really quick. Or maybe you just want to make some extra cash. Well, this is one of the best options available to you!

Anyone can do this. All you have to do is make an account, log in and post free ads in the “For Sale” sections of the site. You get to choose what category of the For Sale section, the price you want to sell the item for and the shipping and handling. I like these types of sites where I can post free ads because I can post again and again and NOT have to pay a fee (not even one red cent)! A few of the categories in the For Sale section are as follows:

Autos
Books/Magazines
Business For Sale
CDs/DVDs
Clothes
Collectible Items
Computer
Crafts/Decorations
Electronics
Free Stuff
Furniture
Jewelry
Motorcycles
Music Equipment

There are also a few dozen other sections I tapered out. Notice that there is indeed a free section. So if you simply want to get something off your hands in a quick hurry and don’t want to have to go through the whole payment process - you can do that as well! Or hey, you could always sell the item for free and then tack on a few bucks for S&H. That’s what I would do.

Because while I wouldn’t mind giving things away - I also wouldn’t want to pay for the shipping fee! Usually I always make it a rule of thumb however, to never sell anything (for a monetary value or for free) unless it’s something I genuinely could find myself buying. Don’t give people junk. If it looks like it should go in the trash, then throw it in the trash, but if it looks like something someone could really use - post a free ad and see who bites!
