Indianapolis 500 Tickets - Ganassi’s Two Indy 500 Winners
Thursday, April 9th, 2009The Indy Racing League (IRL) will harbor 22 drivers for the start of this year’s IndyCar Series. Of these 22, big names like Scott Dixon, Dan Wheldon, Danica Patrick and Marco Andretti will all be back for yet another round of frenzied open wheel racing, but several of racing’s biggest names have recently undergone turbulent swaps and changes galore, with 10 of the league’s 22 drivers jumping into cars with different teams than last year and two drivers making their debuts onto the IndyCar scene.
Seat swapping has been the name of the game in this year’s racing offseason, and several very important changes have been made during the last few weeks and months that are sure to make a difference in the balance of this year’s racing season. Among the biggest team changes to occur between the 2008 and 2009 seasons (aside from Will Power temporarily taking the place of Helio Castroneves for Team Penske) a chain reaction brought Dario Franchitti back from a failed attempt at NASCAR, taking Dan Wheldon’s place with Target Chip Ganassi Racing. Wheldon then took Vitor Meira’s spot with Panther Racing, and Meira subsequently replaced Darren Manning at A.J. Foyt Racing, while Manning scrambled to pick up a slot with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing this past weekend.
While this huge chain reaction has affected much of the IndyCar realm, the team it has most affected is Ganassi Racing, which by far got the best deal out of the league’s seat swapping. Ganassi now holds the powerhouse combination of Scott Dixon and Dario Franchitti as teammates, and both of these IRL superstars are expected to soar high over the field of IndyCar participants this season. Dixon, the reigning Indianapolis 500 winner and series champion, is looking to make the 2009 season a two-peat, while Franchitti is welcomed back into the IndyCar circle as the 2007 Indy 500 winner and fellow series champ. This Ganassi Racing dynamic duo is heating up the racing scene already, as this marks the first time in IRL history that two drivers who have won both the Indy 500 and an IndyCar series championship will be teammates.
Now that Franchitti and Dixon are teammates instead of rivals, racing fans can expect a significant amount of friendly competition to amount in the 2009 season. The entire racing realm is looking to the Indy 500 to determine which will be the better of the Ganassi pair, as this coveted race is a telltale sign of how the rest of the series will unfold. This year’s Indianapolis 500 is set to commence on May 24, 2009, giving Dario Franchitti some time to shake off dust and Scott Dixon some time to gain speed before going into the prestigious race. Indianapolis 500 tickets are still available online, so get tickets today and get dialed into the Target Chip Ganassi Racing domination that may very well take over the IndyCar realm with the ladies and gentlemen starting their engines in the 93rd running of the Indianapolis 500.
