God and Self Hypnosis - Shaken Or Stirred?

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

Does the practice of self hypnosis open you to demonic obsession or possession? Is it a substitute for prayer and the work of the Holy Spirit? Is there any value in it for religious people?

Many religious people are misinformed about self hypnosis. Here’s an example. A devout Christian friend of mine said she didn’t need hypnosis because she had prayer and the Holy Spirit to solve her problems. She thought that as a clinical hypnotherapist I would now substitute hypnosis for prayer - or even deny the power of the Divine. She disapproved of it so much, she tossed it off and compared it to Ouija board use. She just thought self hypnosis and God could not coexist.

Hypnosis: The Caricature and the Truth

That caricature of hypnosis still persists in the minds of many religious and nonreligious people. Here’s the truth:

* Hypnosis, hypnotherapy and self hypnosis have wide acceptance in the medical community (the proliferation of hypnosis-related science articles and books throughout the world strongly highlight how how relevant it is).

* Hypnosis will not “take over your mind.” It’s simply a focusing of your mind’s attention to create positive change.

* It’s not supernatural.

* It’s not mind control. You’ll have full awareness during the entire procedure in the vast majority of cases. With self hypnosis the person can do the inductions and suggestions all by herself.

When pressed about their knowledge of hypnosis and where their objections come from, some religious people become vague and circular in their smoke-filled arguments. Many have never experienced it or researched it. And instead of searching for the clear substantive evidence, they protect their religious faiths with dogma and salve their egos with emotion-filled hearsay. (Of course modern scientific hypnotherapy didn’t exist when the sacred scriptures of the world religions were penned.)

Do God and Hypnosis Mix?

As a man with a strong faith and connection with the Divine, I can tell you self hypnosis and God can coexist. Many of my feelings about my morality-based habits and challenges have been improved by using hypnosis-related techniques.

You’ve heard the expression “God helps those who help themselves.” Since hypnosis is used as a tool for change by millions, hasn’t God provided it so we could reach for and then maintain our goals? For more than five decades modern hypnosis has helped psychiatrists cure the mentally ill, medical doctors alleviate pain and the rest of us reduce our stress and overcome bad habits.

So, When Does Hypnosis Need the Help of Spirit?

There are times when no amount of hypnosis can surmount some problems. That’s when I turn to spiritual practices like prayer. And what a powerful combination prayer and hypnosis can make!

Both have a lot in common. When we pray deeply and earnestly we enter into an altered state of consciousness identical to certain levels of trance with self hypnosis. But here’s the difference: with prayer we hope to open up the line of communication with the Divine and invoke assistance — whether for ourselves or for others.

Demonic Possession vs. The Hypnotic State

The idea that hypnosis could relegate a mentally healthy person to demonic obsessions or possessions could come from the fear that because we are unconscious in the hypnotic state certain forces could take us over. But… we remain completely aware, awake and in control (morally) during hypnosis. So we needn’t fear that invisible entities will gain entry to our souls.

I’ve been practicing self hypnosis and clinical hypnotherapy since 1996 and I haven’t seen anything which hints at aligning with the demonic. Hypnosis makes my prayer life more effective and full of wonder. (More in a future article.)

In Summary

Self hypnosis should be seen as a gift from above. It’s a simple and effective way to work on our challenges — not a replacement for prayer or connection with the Divine. It can really work with the tools of spirit to help make each of us become our best. Isn’t that what the Divine wants?

Self hypnosis and God don’t only coexist; they both can expand our wonder and alignment with the universe.

Antique History Books - Happiness Now A Science

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

Antique History Books have told us so much about the wisdom of the ancients. When advice has been given on how to reach a state of bliss or happiness, every faith has had the way unique to it, and the followers who follow the acceptance of their ancestors.

What is the road to bliss? And then eternal salvation? Each faith has developed an answer as it interprets the Jewish Old Testament Bible, the Christian Bible, The Koran, the words of Buddha, or any other ancient or modern healers.

But modern science has taken the measure of people who live the longest and report greatest sense of happiness and living a satisfying life. These are the common attributes that University of California researchers found among these people.

1. -COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS
2. -PRACTICE ACTS OF KINDNESS
3. -SAVOR THE JOYS OF LIFE
4. -THANK A MENTOR
5. -LEARN TO FORGIVE
6. -INVEST TIME AND ENERGY IN FRIENDS AND FAMILY
7. -TAKE CARE OF YOUR BODY
8. -DEVELOP STRATEGIES TO COPE: STRESS AND HARDSHIPS.

We feel this is so important that we should incorporate this into our heart and soul. And how can we do that? The same way that medical students memorize all the bones of the foot, for example, by breaking them down into an acronym, that is the first letter of each bone, or ventricle through the heart.

So, what we get first off from this deep wisdom are the existing initials as we see. If Count your Blessings is C, then we have:CPST, calling LITD.

If you can find some other word in each category that links you deeper and in a more immediate way by all your favorite relatives and you can make that work, then do that.

Another way is to read each word out loud, and write it down, and repeat it so much it becomes a part of you. Or we turn the page after nodding at such good advice and forget it while we get busy in our lives.

And if we take the key word first letter, we may have Blessings, Kindness, Savor, Thank, Forgive, Friends/Family,Care,Cope: BKST, FFCC.

Many other studies have confirmed on these findings, and add that often these people report a belief in God and attend to many charitable events and are active for their ages. They are positive in attitude and quicker to search for a solution than complain about a situation that with effort could be made better.

Otherwise, it can become easy as as Piglet and Pooh.
CPST,or BKST, Pooh. LITD, or FFCC, Piglet. Be happy.

The Top 11 Traits Of The Water Sign Aquarius

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

Whether you believe that the stars have anything to do with your life and the way things go or not, when you read about the sign you were born under, it might make you a little curious anyway. Sometimes there are some really strange similarities with the description of how you are in comparison to the descriptions of how the signs characteristics read. One of the most fascinating signs and the character traits that supposedly come with being born under this specific sign are Aquarians.

Aquarius is said to be the sign of the water bearer. Aquarians are born from January twentieth through February eighteenth. Below are just some of the traits that Aquarians are said to have. Do any or all of these character traits describe you?

1. Aquarians are generally pretty intelligent in that they love to analyze any situation before they reach a conclusion of any kind. They will be uncomfortable making a rash quick decision. Aquarians are usually truth seekers.
2. They are generally concerned about others and making others happy gives Aquarians a sense of fulfillment for themselves.
3. Aquarians can often feel lonely even though they enjoy being in large groups or crowds.
4. They can have a bright side and a dark side. While they are caring and sensitive on hand they can also be insensitive at times and self centered when the mood strikes.
5. Aquarians are tolerant of the views of others even if they do not agree with them. They want to know all aspects of an argument or debate so they can make the most informed conclusion possible. They do not mind learning from anyone.
6. They can be idealistic, but they are also very sensible.
7. Aquarians are not usually crowd followers and value their independence and alone time even while they do enjoy the company of others as well.
8. Aquarians tend to have good taste in things like music, the arts, and drama.
9. Even though they enjoy company, they can have problems making deep friendships.
10. The water bearers may not tolerate interference by others very well.
11. Water bearers are faithful when committed and expect the same from a partner. When they are cheated on their anger can be tremendous and many times unforgiving.

These are just some of the complicated traits of Aquarians. If you know some water bearers or are one yourself you will probably notice some similarities whether you want to admit it or not. Maybe it is all just a coincidence or maybe not.

Developing A Technology Of Stillness

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

Stillness is the place where we meet what is essential in us - what lasts and is deeply fulfilling. It is a place of non-disturbance where there is enough space and enough quiet to hear the subtle whispers of intuition and guidance. Stillness is a place where we can rest and feel ourselves fully connected to life.

The vast reservoir of stillness is always waiting. It is only our connection to it that varies.

As humans, we want to live an exceptional life in this very physical, very concrete, world. As spiritual or energetic beings, we have a deep, innate desire to be in clear and constant touch with our true nature. In opening to stillness we achieve both. We unburden ourselves of the limitations - physical, emotional and behavioral - that have interfered with our abilities to enjoy life freely and abundantly. And we find what is essential and true in our nature.

Is it possible to take something as subtle and fragile as our connection to stillness and make it predictable and consistent? Could we, in fact, create a “technology” of stillness to make that connection inevitable and our default way of being in the world? My answer is YES! Absolutely.

In creating a technology of stillness it would be useful to know how we have lost - or at least misplaced - something as natural to our being as the spaciousness of undisturbed flow. What I have observed in myself and hundreds of others is that, in response to stresses experienced throughout our lives (even sometimes in utero), we have become contracted from this natural and complete state of being.

As we let go, therefore, of the patterns and defenses that create and protect this contraction, we will begin to open. The experience is one of de-intensification, of opening the “weave” of the body so that we experience a greater flow of energy. We become more like ourselves. This is literally true for, as we flow more energy, we become less dense and experience more of our true nature - energetic or “spiritual” beings. Happily, the new science in physics and biology support this premise and our experience.

Intervention through the Body
This letting go process occurs easiest and most quickly by going through the body to reduce the contraction there. We found that changing our thinking patterns is slow, tedious, and fraught with the danger of “thinking” ourselves right back into one of our standard perspectives. So, we have focused on a body-centered approach.

As we let go of muscle tension and relax the parts and processes of our bodies, our minds naturally lose their automatic, unproductive, and repetitive thoughts. We create space between stimuli and our responses, lessening the time we spend lost in automatic reflexes. We begin to wake up.

While your core personality will not change (at least not in the early stages of this process), what does change predictably is that you will be less influenced by the fears, compulsions, and filters that distort your true expression. As our body releases its tensions and patterns, our thinking follows. We regain the innocence and pleasure that young children experience in living.

Tools for Opening
In developing a Technology of Stillness we called upon both ancient and modern tools, both simple and complex. Practices of using and watching the breath, for instance, are a time-tested doorway into the reservoir of stillness that awaits us. Mindfulness - the use of attention - brings us into the NOW. Stretching, strength, and body alignment allows energy to move freely.

But these practices cannot quickly overcome the set-in resistance of the body and mind. Culture creates a strong pull to its way of being. Traditional practices take a long time to recalibrate our resonance to the frequencies of stillness. Humans want and need stillness now.

So, we round out the ancient practices with the modern ones, using frequencies to unravel and resolve our contraction efficiently and permanently. One such tool is coupling breath work with actual vibration, added directly into the body. The resulting technique, or Vibrational Release Technique, is the single most efficient path to eliminate stress from the nervous system.

An audio learning program is another high-technology tool we use to re-train the body to the frequencies of lower resistance and higher flow. The audio program uses actual tones and waves to induce deep relaxation and to create greater flow and possibility in the body/mind as old patterns fall away.

o The tones in the program mirror the tones in the physiology, i.e., how tightly the muscles hold on, represented by how many times per second (hz) the muscles fire.

o The waves in the program allow your body/mind to resonate at deeper levels of openness through your built-in “frequency following response.” This automatic response is your tendency to resonate with the predominant frequency around you.

With regular use of the audio program, your body/mind will learn how to let go into and sustain a more open state of being than the culture around you.

A Technology of Stillness
An effective technology must create predictable and consistent results. Yet, to be effective with humans, it must be flexible enough to work with our individual nervous systems, patterning, and readiness for letting go. It cannot force a result. It must simply open the possibility and provide effective support.

The Technology of Stillness is designed for you to stabilize in each new level of stillness so that you are ready to open to the next level. As stillness deepens you can make emotional, mental and physiological changes that you would otherwise not be able to make.

The Legend of Psychic Sylvia Browne

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

Born October 19, 1936, Sylvia Browne is without question, “America’s #1 Psychic,” an internationally known psychic and medium. Sylvia Browne’s clients include celebrities and people from every walk of life. Some ask if Sylvia is real, but Sylvia has also been called upon to assist the police (and the families of victims) with crimes, and doctors with troubling cases. She is also a repeated best-selling author with more than thirty books published about spiritual and metaphysical topics.

Many tuned in weekly to see Sylvia Browne appear on The Montel Williams Show, which concluded this past September. Her funny, warm and infectious style of delivering the psychic messages appealed to an audience of millions on Montel. Sylvia is like the older sister you know and love, who just happens to truly know everything and makes you laugh as she tells you the God honest truth. Both the television audience and viewers at home were frequently brought to tears and laughter by her thoughtful and healing psychic messages. Some of her most popular Montel Williams appearances were her “yearly prediction” shows.

Sylvia Browne’s predictions have stunned and amazed millions as she has accurately predicted world events, milestones for celebrities, and so much more. Browne also hosts a regular radio show on Hay House Radio, offering her sage advice about paranormal and psychic issues with an international audience.

Sylvia Browne was born in “the heart of the Bible Belt” (Kansas City, Missouri) and is the older of two daughters. Her psychic gifts developed quickly; at the tender age of three, she saw the deaths of both of her great-grandmothers. She was simply terrified by this, but fortunately Sylvia had her Grandma Ada to turn to. Grandma Ada also had psychic abilities and understood her granddaughter even better than she could know. Grandma Ada explained to her that she was a psychic medium and that God gave her these gifts to help people. At the time, she had responded that these gifts scared her, and that she didn’t want them. Her Grandma Ada only smiled a knowing smile. Sylvia Browne developed a love for world religions at an early age, with a household that encompassed Jewish, Episcopalian, Catholic and Lutheran beliefs.

Sylvia Browne’s psychic abilities continued to grow as she did. At seven years of age, Sylvia met her Spirit Guide Francine. Francine said, “I come from God. I am here to guide and protect you, and you don’t have to be afraid.” While Sylvia was scared at first, after another talk with Grandma Ada, she learned that Francine was a trusted companion, advisor and life-long friend. To this day, Sylvia refers to Francine at many of her lectures, seminars and in her books.

As an adult, Sylvia Browne started a school to teach about spiritual subjects. She is a trained hypnotist and a highly-skilled trance medium. In 1974, she started The Nirvana Foundation for Psychic Research, today it is known as The Sylvia Browne Corporation. Classes grew larger and larger and what started in her tiny living room soon moved to a storefront location.

In 1986, Sylvia founded the Society of Novus Spiritus, a church located in Campbell, California. The Christian Gnostic beliefs include rejecting guilt, sin and retribution. It is a Gnostic Christian church. Sylvia creates special materials used specifically for the church.

Sylvia is continuing her legacy by working with her son, psychic Chris Dufresne. Chris now also offers private readings. Her amazing psychic gifts appear also in Chris Dufresne’s young daughter, Angeline. Sylvia Browne is still accessible to those that love her as she continues to do private psychic readings when so many at her level do not offer them.

Sylvia Browne is a best-selling author with more than thirty books published including If You Could See What I See, Lessons for Life, and Life on The Other Side. Her passion for research and enthusiasm for teaching spiritual subjects appeals to the millions that read and love her books. Many of her materials are available on audio CD.

Sylvia has touched so many lives and truly transformed them with her predictions and spiritual teachings. Sylvia gives lectures to sold-out audiences over and over.

Sylvia Browne is a popular media guest across the country, appearing often on television and radio programs. She is a frequent guest on Larry King Live and Coast to Coast AM.
